The Tongyeong Creator Town project is a styling and furniture design project for the third-floor guest rooms and lounge of Tongyeong Creator Town, comprising a lounge chair, a side table, a hanger, a bed, a bedside shelf, and a lounge table.
Studio Kim was responsible for the styling and furniture production for the third floor of Tongyeong Creator Town, which consists of three guest rooms and a lounge. For the guest rooms, Studio Kim developed the overall styling using Room 2 as the reference model, and designed the room furniture, including the chair, hanger, and bed, so that it could be applied across every guest room.
In the lounge, Studio Kim handled the overall styling and designed a table made specifically for the space. Across the floor, the furniture and styling work together so that each room, however compact, offers a distinct place to rest and a distinct place to sleep.
The third floor of Tongyeong Creator Town holds two kinds of space: three compact guest rooms where people stay on their own, and a lounge they share. The project began by asking what each of them needed.
For the guest rooms, the question was how a small room could hold more than a bed. One set of furniture had to work in all three rooms, so Studio Kim set out to divide each room into a resting area and a sleeping area, and to design pieces that could be repeated from room to room while still feeling considered in each one.
Each piece of room furniture was designed for its role. The lounge-type chair gives guests a place to sit and rest that is not the bed, even in a compact room. The hanger, an essential piece in any guest room, stands as an object in its own right when nothing hangs from it, without becoming too strong a presence in a small space. The small shelf beside the bed gives guests a place for the things they keep close at night, such as phones and glasses.
For the lounge, the starting point was the opposite: a shared space where guests step out of their rooms and gather. The lounge had to hold many different activities, from working at a table to eating and spending time together. Rather than repeating the room furniture, Studio Kim approached the lounge as a space of its own, styling it as a whole and placing a large table, designed specifically for it, that seats many people at once.
