“Only straight thoughts are born in straight spaces.”
The Rock Scissors Paper showroom begins with this small doubt. We believe that taste is not something chosen from a set of predetermined types, but something discovered in the moment when a familiar sense is gently unsettled. Rather than creating a perfectly ordered showroom, this space was designed to be slightly off-center, to hold unexpected angles, and to reveal different faces depending on the situation.
Within a compact footprint, the showroom and workspace coexist. On weekdays, the two areas operate separately, while on weekends or during events, the entire space expands into a single showroom. The central device that enables this transformation is a movable cabinet. During the week, it divides the space like a wall; on weekends, it shifts to the side and becomes a backdrop. A single object becomes both a partition and a stage element.
Throughout the space, small deviations are placed to express Rock Scissors Paper’s idea of “taste beyond familiarity.” Instead of straight walls, folded surfaces create new angles; triangular shelving responds to the existing diagonal conditions; and near the window, light enters obliquely along a slanted plane. Natural wood, vivid artificial colors, stable structures, and tilted angles collide with one another, forming a rhythm of their own.
This project is about allowing a small space to take on multiple forms. Depending on the position of the cabinet, the direction from which it is viewed, and the shift between weekday and weekend use, the space continuously becomes a different scene. Through these changes, the showroom moves beyond being a place for displaying products and becomes a space where visitors can directly experience the way Rock Scissors Paper proposes taste.
“반듯한 공간에서는 반듯한 생각만 태어난다.”
Rock Scissors Paper 쇼룸은 이 작은 의심에서 출발합니다. 취향은 이미 정해진 유형 안에서 고르는 것이 아니라, 익숙하다고 믿었던 감각이 살짝 흔들리는 순간 발견된다고 생각했습니다. 그래서 이 공간은 완벽하게 정돈된 쇼룸이기보다, 조금 삐딱하고, 의외의 각도를 가지며, 상황에 따라 다른 얼굴을 보여주는 공간으로 계획되었습니다.
작은 면적 안에는 쇼룸과 업무 공간이 함께 존재합니다. 평일에는 두 영역이 분리되어 작동하지만, 주말이나 이벤트 상황에서는 하나의 쇼룸처럼 확장됩니다. 이를 가능하게 하는 중심 장치는 무버블 캐비넷입니다. 평일에는 벽처럼 공간을 나누고, 주말에는 옆으로 이동해 배경이 됩니다. 하나의 기물이 벽이 되었다가 무대 장치가 되는 구조입니다.
공간 곳곳에는 Rock Scissors Paper가 말하는 ‘익숙함 너머의 취향’을 담기 위한 작은 어긋남들이 배치되어 있습니다. 반듯한 벽 대신 꺾인 면을 만들고, 비스듬한 환경에는 삼각형 선반을 세웠으며, 창가의 사선 면을 따라 빛이 비껴 들어오도록 계획했습니다. 자연적인 우드와 선명한 인공 색감, 안정적인 구조와 틀어진 각도는 서로 충돌하면서도 하나의 리듬을 만듭니다.
작은 공간이 여러 형태를 가질 수 있도록 만든 프로젝트입니다. 캐비넷의 위치에 따라, 보는 방향에 따라, 평일과 주말의 상황에 따라 공간은 계속 다른 장면이 됩니다. 그리고 그 변화 속에서 쇼룸은 제품을 전시하는 장소를 넘어, Rock Scissors Paper가 제안하는 취향의 방식을 직접 경험하는 공간이 됩니다.
