Colocynth Bukchon Showroom Furniture Project
Colocynth의 북촌 쇼룸 확장 이전에 따라, 새롭게 구성될 공간을 위한 기물 디자인 요청으로 시작되었다.
3층에 위치한 쇼룸의 특성상, 설치 및 유지보수의 효율성을 고려해 조립형 구조의 가구를 제안하였고, 기존 공간의 일부 기물을 활용하려는 니즈에 맞추어 자작나무 합판을 기반으로 한 낮은 수납장과 페어링되는 행거를 설계하였다.
흰 벽과 원목 바닥이 이분법적으로 나뉘는 시각적 경계를 완화하기 위해, 바닥에서부터 이어지는 듯한 재질의 흐름을 유도하여 벽체와의 연결감을 형성하고자 했다. 이로 인해 시선은 분절되지 않고 자연스럽게 흐르며, 제품을 관람하는 동안 시각적 피로를 줄이는 효과를 의도하였다.
피팅룸은 스테인리스 파이프로 전체 프레임을 구축하고, Colocynth 팀에서 직접 패브릭 마감을 진행하였다. 시즌에 따라 천을 교체할 수 있도록 섬세하게 설계되었으며, 패브릭 설치 이후에도 상부 프레임이 드러나 공간을 안정감 있게 구획하는 조형으로 작동하도록 의도되었다.
This project was initiated in response to Colocynth’s relocation and expansion into a new showroom space in Bukchon.
Given that the showroom occupies the third floor, we proposed modular furniture to ensure ease of transport, assembly, and long-term maintenance. To accommodate the client’s desire to reuse existing shelving, we designed a birch plywood hanger that visually pairs with the low storage unit already in place.
To soften the stark division between the white walls and wooden flooring, a material continuity was introduced—creating the impression that the floor texture subtly rises into the wall-mounted shelving. This allows the gaze to flow without interruption and reduces visual fatigue while browsing the space.
The fitting room was constructed using stainless steel pipe framing, with the Colocynth team applying fabric finishes. The framework was designed to allow seasonal changes of fabric, and even after the textile layer is applied, the exposed upper pipe maintains a strong visual structure, defining the space without the need for solid partitions.
